The Crows
Words and Music by Joe Bolinger

My mother said when I was born
I looked just like an ear of corn.
She threw me to the crows.
They ate me row by row.
Heckel & Jeckel came a’peckin
I don’t know what I was expectin.
That’s the way it goes.
Wherefore no one knows.

And my death, the pain was great.
The crows they pecked my eyes away.
I was flying blind.
Left you far behind.
You know my life, it wasn’t long.
Now I will fertilize your lawn.
Life it comes and goes.
Wherefore no one knows.

Chorus:
I cried up to the moon.
He stood up there and didn’t care
What I was doin.
I died a bit too soon,
And it seems to me alright to cry
In the afternoon.

My brother said when I was nine
He tied me up with fishin line.
He threw me in the pond.
One gulp I was gone.
I remember how they fought,
And you should see the fish he caught.
Bigger than a tank,
But not even a thanks.

Chorus:

My father said, son, you will heal.
You’ll get by on your sex appeal.
Look, I turned out fine,
And I die all the time.
Oh my dad, I hope it’s true
That I can convalesce with you.
But there’s something you should hear.
You’ve been dead for years.

Chorus.
