“She grew up tall and she grew up right, with them Indiana boys on them Indiana nights,” sings Tom Petty in his classic song, Last Dance with Mary Jane. Indiana Boys takes its name from this iconic line, paying tribute to Petty’s quintessentially American body of simple, heartfelt, and exquisitely crafted work. Indiana Boys aspires to capture that same spirit in their own original songwriting, while also bringing to bear their Southern Indiana roots music influences.
Indiana Boys have been performing original Americana around Indiana for the better part of a decade. The Boys aim to invoke the bluegrass tradition’s attention to virtuosity while reserving the right to craft songs with wide ranging forms and emotionally complex content.
With four albums under their belts (Muddy Boots, October Nights, and This Modern World, Live Vol One), they carry a large repertoire of original music, along with their unique take on some well-known hits. Though the band has seen a variety of lineups over the years, its current incarnation is Kenan Rainwater (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Richard Gist (vocals, guitar, mandolin), and Joe Bolinger (banjo, vocals).
